At the heart of our Parish is our Sunday gathering for Mass.
Therefore, St Michael's needs to gather people together to
"re-member" what we are about! Jesus Christ is the centre of it all. We need to remember Him in the way He asked to be remembered. So we have LITURGY, the public worship of the Church, the summit of which is the Eucharist or the Mass. We like to think we do Liturgy well! St Michael's has a
liturgy committee which looks ahead to the Church's year and critiques each season when it is over.
We have a sizeable number of trained
Readers who proclaim the Sacred Scriptures. We have a saying that "We don't read at St Michael's, we Proclaim". Kathryn Schollum, co-ordinates our group of Readers.
It's said that "to sing is to pray twice", so we have singing at all masses. We have a number of
organists and cantors who lead the music at the Sunday Masses at St Michael's. There is a group of young (and "young at heart")
musicians who lead the congregation at the Family Mass on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 10.00am. On the 2nd Sunday of the month the
Alleluia Choir lead us in singing at the 10am Mass.
We have a number of
Special Ministers of Holy Communion who assist with Holy Communion. Ruth Miller convenes these ministers.
Those who gather on Sunday are a mixture of young and not-so-young.
For the younger children we provide on most Sundays a special Liturgy of the Word. They have their own Bible readings and prayers and return to the fuller assembly for the Eucharist part of the Mass. On the 3rd Sunday of the month at the 10am Mass we have what we call a "
Family Mass". On the 5th Sunday of the month (when it occurs in the calendar) the 10am Mass is a School/Parish Mass.
Other ministers involved in the church are:
Altar Servers,
Collectors,
Laptop/Projector Operators,
Carers of the Sanctuary.
